The difference between threaded drill rod and tapered drill rod
Author:
The main difference between threaded drill rods and tapered drill rods lies in their structural design and usage
Threaded drill rod
The tail of the threaded drill rod has threads, mainly used to connect the surface equipment of the drilling rig and the drilling and grinding equipment or bottom hole device located at the bottom of the drilling rig. Its core function is to transport drilling mud to the drill bit and cooperate with the drill bit to achieve the action of lifting, lowering, or rotating the bottom hole device.
Taper drill rod
Conical drill rods usually refer to drill rod joints designed with tapered threads, mainly used for transmitting torque and pressure. The joint adopts a V-shaped thread structure, which achieves torque transmission through threaded connection and has high wear resistance and strength.
The two are related
In practical applications, there may be a correlation between the thread structure of threaded drill rods and the tapered threads of tapered drill rods. For example, some drill pipe joints adopt V-shaped thread design, which not only meets the requirements of threaded connection but also conforms to the taper standard.
